I Love Romantic MoviesConfessions of a Romantic Movie CollectorAlthough my collection of romantic movies is by no means large (yet), I do enjoy acquiring, watching and reviewing them. My fiance D., a notorious Action and Adventure Film buff is always at my side and only falls asleep during SOME of the romance movies we watch! He thought that Irene Dunne's character "Terry" in Love Affair (1941) was fairly hopeless when she wouldn't tell Michel of her crippling accident and he promptly dozed off. I watched it to the end (I always do) and although the story "worked out", I found it a bit lame too. I may have to do some fast-talking to get him to join me in watching the later version of the same story, "An Affair to Remember" (1957) with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. I must admit, I prefer characters to communicate more freely and sometimes resent a romance movie that is overly dependent on "miscommunication-caused angst" as a major plot tool. |
