ESCAPE WITH YOUR LOVE INTO THE WORLD OF ROMANCE MOVIES!
Addicted to Love (1997)
Sam (Matthew Broderick) isn't about to jettison his relationship with Linda (Kelly Preston), even after she takes up with suave Frenchman Anton. So, Sam does the logical thing and moves into an abandoned building across the street to spy! But Sam isn't alone in the jilted department. Anton's ex (Meg Ryan) shows up on Sam's doorstep with a plan -- for retribution!
I love this movie. It is cute and sweet with a dash of naughtiness that makes it fun!
Rock 'n' roll meets The Canterbury Tales when a squire (Heath Ledger) befriends an aspiring writer and persuades him to forge documents that will pass off the squire as a knight of noble birth. With his new "history" in hand, the erstwhile squire finds romance and enters jousting competitions far and wide -- all set to the infectious beat of contemporary pop tunes.
I didn't expect to enjoy this romance movie as much as I did. A rowdy, romantic romp! Recommended!
After World War II ends, a disillusioned veteran (Keanu Reeves) is working as a traveling salesman when he meets a pregnant woman (Aitana Sanchez-Gijon) enroute to Napa Valley to help her family with the grape harvest. She needs someone to pose as her husband at her family's vineyard, and the ex-soldier agrees. Director Alfonso Arau (Like Water for Chocolate) spins a tale of mystical romance based on a 1942 Italian romance movie of the same name.
Although I sometimes feel like Keanu Reeves can't act his way out of a paper bag, I found this movie to be very sweet and romantic.
Director Steven Spielberg delivers an old-fashioned romantic adventure, as firefighting pilot Richard Dreyfuss perishes in the line of duty and comes back from the beyond to watch over his replacement (Brad Johnson) and his true love (Holly Hunter). Exciting, romantic and featuring Audrey Hepburn's final screen appearance, Always reaffirms the adage "What you give away, you keep forever."
The chemistry between Holly Hunter and Richard Dreyfuss (as Dorinda and Pete) is heartwarming and heartfelt. John Goodman is terrific as Pete's best friend, Al.
Bored housewife Cathy Palmer (JoBeth Williams) has ambitions to be a writer and enters a mystery-writing contest to win a free trip for two to Paris. When Cathy unexpectedly wins, her neglectful husband refuses to go with her on the trip, so she leaves alone. Once in Paris, she gets hit by a car and awakens thinking she's Rebecca Ryan, the heroine in a series of pulp mysteries. Co-stars Tom Conti. Rick Rosenthal directs.
Here is another romance movie I truly didn't expect to like as well as I did. D. liked it too. We laughed out loud several times. Tom Conti was brilliant and understated and JoBeth's performance was uplifting as she embodied her "real" (?) self!
